The project consisted of performing the independent check of four bridges along State Route 91 in Riverside County in accordance with the Caltrans Project Development Procedures Manual. All bridges were designed in accordance with current Caltrans Bridge Design Specifications and SDC criteria Version 1.1.
The existing structures at Jackson Street and Brockton Street UC consist of a single span steel girder superstructure supported on a deep cantilever seat type abutment. The spans were approximately 26m and the width of the one side widening is approximately 5.9 m. The replacement structure consisted of a precast I girder with similar abutment supported on driven concrete piles. The existing bridge at Monroe Street UC also consists of a similar superstructure and sub structure. The spans and the widening widths were similar for all bridges.
The Jackson Street OC replacement structure consists of a two span ( 31m-31m) cast-in-placed prestressed box girder structure. The width of the bridge is 15.61m and the substructure consists of a two column bent supported on a pile foundation. The abutments were similar to the other under crossing structures. The profile limitation required a relatively shallow structure depth within which several utility openings.
