The San Mateo-Hayward bridge is approximately 7 miles long and is one of the major crossings of the San Francisco Bay, connecting Foster City and Hayward. The bridge consists of West Approach Structure, Steel Bridge and Trestle. The substructure consists of 2 abutment piers (Pier 1, Pier 38) and 36 concrete piers. Pier 1A and Pier 38A are the new super bents to resist global forces from the steel bridge. The evaluation was based on site specific ARS curves and project specific performance criteria.
