| BRIDGE NAME: |
Exposition Boulevard Bridges Over Ballona Creek
|
| LOCATION: |
Los Angeles, California
|
| DESCRIPTION: |
The Exposition Boulevard Bridges are located on Exposition Boulevard at the border of Culver City and the City Of Los Angeles at the intersection of Jefferson Boulevard as it crosses Over Ballona Creek. The City of Los Angeles undertook the improvement as a part of the HBRR program to improve the serviceability and eliminate functional obsolescence by widening and also other improvements such as bridge railings and approach guardrails. Each of the existing twin bridges is 39 ft wide, 181 ft long with a 3 span configuration of 48 ft 3 inch-84 ft-3-48 ft 3 inch and a skew of 16 degrees. The bents consist of a single hammer head shaped pier supported on a pile footing. The abutment consists of seat type abutments on steel driven piles. The bridge was retrofitted with tie back rods with dead man anchor at abutments, bracings at girders, steel angle bracket restraint connection between the steel girders and the pier wall and a steel plate longitudinally connecting the superstructure. The widening consists of a hybrid system consisting of precast I girders and reinforced concrete boxgirder superstructure supported on pier walls and a seat type of abutment supported on driven steel piles.
